What is ISED Certification at Element?

ISED Certification is required for certain categories of radio devices prior to placing them into the Canadian marketplace. A Foreign Certification Body (FCB) like Element can be used for certification of radio devices, which enables the use of an ISED certification number and Hardware Version Identification Number (HVIN) on the products. Such equipment needs to be assessed to applicable ISED RSS standards and then the results (test reports) are submitted, along with details about the technical construction of the product (schematic diagrams, photographs, operational description, etc.) and the user manual to the FCB for evaluation.

After a successful evaluation, the FCB issues a Type Acceptance Certificate and submits the authorization to ISED Canada for review. Once approved by ISED Canada, the product information is listed on the Radio Equipment List (REL), which is required prior to placing your products into the Canadian market.

What's the difference between FCC and ISED certification?

While processes are similar, separate certifications are required for US and Canada markets. FCC certification isn't accepted in Canada and vice versa.

What labeling requirements apply to ISED-certified products?

Products must clearly and visibly display an IC ID, model number, and Hardware Version Identification Number (HVIN). Marketing materials, including your user manual and company website, must include Product Marketing Name (PMN).

What accreditations does Element have?

In addition to our broad range of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited testing services, Element also holds an extensive range of accreditations for all major regions and industries.
