Lui Skytree

Lui is a Lead Fluid Systems Development Engineer at our Element Digital Engineering Filton office with 6+ years’ experience delivering R&D Programmes in high-impact hydrogen technology projects across industry and academia. With previous experience developing hydrogen storage, sensing, safety and leakage technologies as a Research Fellow at the University of Bristol.
Experience
Lui has completed extensive research and development in hydrogen technologies as a Research Fellow at the University of Bristol.
National Cryogenic Hydrogen Permeation Testing - CHyPr: Lui directed the development of a national-level testing capability with the NCC, securing funding and personally leading the engineering design, build, and commissioning of the highly complex fluid system capable of operating across extreme environmental conditions. Furthermore, Lui led the development of a novel tubular hydrogen permeation facility at WMG.
Hydrogen Sensing Technology - HyTrace: Lui invented and patented a novel low-cost, wireless , and low-temperature hydrogen sensor while running university programmes. He directed the business case and industry engagement profile, and oversaw technical rig development and project risk management in parallel.
IMIA: Global Insurance Hydrogen Working Group: Lui advised an international consortium of underwriters, risk engineers, and lawyers on safety and risk mitigation for hydrogen infrastructure, producing white papers that influenced the first global hydrogen insurance clauses.
Nanoengineering advancements in hydrogen storage solutions: Lui raised funding and led research into materials engineering and underlying physics to enable lower-pressure, higher-temperature storage of solid and liquid hydrogen. He was awarded the National Cavendish Gold Medal for Physics by the Parliamentary and Scientific Committee, UK, for his work and communication.
